From the iconic images of Coco Chanel and Nancy Cunard with their stacked bangles to today's fashion runways, the big bracelet is a classic that never goes out of style. Big cuff, tile and bangle bracelets have unique design and construction challenges that when met produce sensational studio and fashion jewelry pieces.  These large-scale bracelet forms are also perfect canvases for dynamic polymer clay surface treatments.  Learn to create large dramatic bracelets that have great visual weight, yet are light and comfortable to wear. You will leave this workshop with a repertoire of construction, surface and finishing techniques that will have you creating a multitude of attention-getting bracelets to wear or sell. 

Techniques taught include: •Design considerations for large-scale bracelets •Constructing large featherweight cuff and bangle bracelets using Seth's unique extruded core and hollow form construction techniques  •Constructing tile and cuff bracelets with precisely placed hidden channels  •Integrating hinges and findings into bracelet designs for professional results  •Modifying construction techniques to suit design variations •Designing coordinated sets of bracelets for stacking  •Unusual uses of large bracelets in other jewelry forms

The latest techniques for creating decorative veneers in polymer clay

Dan first began his peeler experiments in 1999. Five years later, he debuted 'The Cutting Edge,' a hands-on workshop presentation of groundbreaking techniques for creating patterns in polymer clay. Now, five years have passed again. Dan's work and repertoire of techniques have evolved, and this flagship workshop, taught since in seven countries worldwide, has evolved too. Rediscover Holes and Lines, to create Rings, Inserts, Crevices, Filled Holes, Troughs, and Boles. Further explore the amazing properties of mica, using actual texture to echo in as Texture Without Texture. And get a deeper look at Layers by trying some of Dan's newest 'kitchen sink' slab techniques, debuting in his Synergy2 seminar presentation, 'Evolving Mokume.'

The focus is on process, experimenting with a full range of open-ended techniques. A special project kit and demo will provide an optional opportunity for students to apply what they have learned to a finished piece. An intensive but accessible workshop, 'The Cutting Edge Evolved' is suitable for all levels of experience, and will take you from Peeler Basics to a whole new realm of decorative veneer possibilities. Faux Bone™ Workshop

In this very hands-on workshop, we will explore Faux Bone™, a new, friendly and extremely versatile material. Faux Bone™ can be cut, and carved, sawn and sanded. It can be filed, hammered, polished, drilled, stamped, inlayed, dyed, and painted. It can look like ivory, have the patina of aged ceramic, or be polished to a pure white. You can heat and bend it with nothing more than a small embossing heat-gun. It is so strong you can rivet on it, die form right into it, or hammer metal around it. Faux Bone™ is perfect for artwork as varied as jewelry and book making, sculpture, or printmaking. Being nearly unbreakable, it’s also perfect for forming tools, tool handles and jigs. It can be easily embossed to make texture plates for metal clay and basket makers can use it to simulate Scrimshaw on the tops of Nantucket Baskets. In this workshop, we will explore these possibilities and more. Students can expect to leave with a number of examples and/or finished projects. There will be a $20 materials fee, payable to the instructor, which will include 1 piece each of 1/16”, 1/8”, and 1/4” x8” Faux Bone™.

A Day at the Beach

Inspired by the shores of her island home, Tracy has developed a beach bag full of techniques to make unreal pebbles that appear so microscopically natural, even geologists have been fooled. Learn to develop a surprisingly vast colour palette using hardly any colour at all. Recreate the grains, veins, cracks, crevices, textures, and water-worn forms of nature in pure polymer beach pebbles.
